An historical association with the Eastern Townshps
Situated in the Montérégie administrative region, Town of Brome Lake is historically associated with the Eastern Townships region south of the Saint Lawrence Valley and stretching to the American border. The mountainous terrain of the Eastern Townships distinguishes the region from the Saint Lawrence plain. A Sunday traveler will find numerous panoramas and landscapes that may bring to mind some corners of England where most of the Township place names originated: Brome, Bolton, Hatley, Stanstead, Shefford, etc.
Brome Lake – a town of enchantment
The Town extends over a total surface area of 222,89 km2 and has a population of 5611 residents and was constituted by letters patent on December 23rd, 1970. It resulted from the amalgamation of three constituent municipalities -Township of Brome as well as Foster and Knowlton villages – after official request to that effect adopted by the municipalities on May 9th, 1969. At the time, the new municipality was divided in five «electoral sections» for election purposes: Bondville-Fulford-Iron Hill, Brome-Ouest, East Hill, Foster et Knowlton. The Town is currently divided in six «electoral districts», namely: 1. Bondville-Fulford, 2. West-Brome/Iron-Hill, 3. East-Hill, 4. Knowlton-Victoria, 5. Knowlton-Lakeside, 6. Foster.
Brome Lake – The stretch water
With a total surface area of 14,53 km2 , Brome lakeBrome Lake is the very heart of the municipality and makes it a prime holiday and tourist destination. This majestic lake has always attracted outdoor and sporting enthusiasts. Summer is for swimming, pedal boats, sail boarding and catamarans. The nature preserves and ecological areas will also delight the visitor. And then there is the array of other summer activities like the Tour du Lac Brome, and the Fisher, Howson and Fairwinds cups.
