IMPORTANT NOTICE – Brown water episodes to anticipate
BROWN WATER EPISODES TO ANTICIPATE
Brome Lake, May 7, 2018
The Town of Brome Lake wishes to inform the population that sporadic brown water episodes may occur from the beginning of May until the end of the work planned on Victoria Street, Knowlton Road and Mill Road.
Manipulating water main valves changes the directions and speeds in the conducts. It may cause enough turbulence in the network to dislodge fine ferrous particles attached to the conducts walls and therefore, temporarily discolor the water by making it yellowish to reddish.
Various Town platforms (website, Facebook page) will relay information on the planned operations that might result in brown water episodes.
Although it is not recommended to consume it (ferrous taste and color), brown water it is not a health hazard.
• In case of brown water, we recommend you to open all the cold water taps and let them drain for about 30 minutes or until the water becomes colorless;
• Do not use the hot water taps when there is a brown water episode. Your hot water tank will fill with brown water and you will have to purge it;
• Avoid doing laundry without validating the water color and/or the Town notices for planned operations on the network. Specialized rusty stain removers are available in hardware stores in case of stained laundry.
The Town apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the implementation of this work, necessary to maintaining its quality of service and thanks its residents for their usual cooperation.
