Organic materials: the first pick-up dates announced!

PRESS RELEASE
For immediate publication

Everything is in place for the beginning of organic materials pick-up in Brome Lake. The Town’ s mandated company trucks will be out on the streets starting next week. Zone 1 residents can circle Thursday, January 17 on their calendar, while Zone 2 residents must put their bin by the roadside on Friday, January 18.

Starting today, citizens are invited to use their brown bin. There will be a pick-up every two weeks until April and then every week from April to mid-October.

The new calendar detailing the complete schedule of the various pick-up operations will be sent to residents in the week of January 21 with the tax bill. It will also be available online soon on the Town’ s website under the Residents tab.

The implementation of such a service throughout Brome-Missisquoi is the result of the Quebec Residual Materials Management Policy, which has the objective to divert 100% of organic materials from landfills by 2020.

“We all have a role to play in achieving this target,” said Richard Burcombe, Mayor of Town of Brome Lake. “I therefore invite each of my fellow citizens to make an effort in order to reduce the amount of organic matter found in the garbage bins.”

A quick reminder: like other containers, the brown bin must be placed within the property line, with the wheels and handles facing the side of the residence.
