Cycling Patrol

Active during the summer season, the Town of Brome Lake cycling patrol rides along the Lac-Brome path to raise users’ awareness of best practices and to act as an ambassador for our beautiful town.

The Mission of the Cycling Patrol

The Town of Brome Lake bike patrol is there to offer a proactive presence on the path network. Our volunteer patrollers are here to:

  • Promote safe and respectful trail use: sharing the space, being courteous, staying safe, and protecting the environment.
  • Inform and guide users: answering questions, giving tips on how to use the trails, and helping visitors find their way.
  • Encourage positive interactions between everyone: walkers, cyclists, families, visitors, and residents.
  • Act as ambassadors for the community: highlighting local attractions, municipal activities, and available services.
  • Provide safe assistance in case of an emergency or incident: offering basic first aid when needed and contacting the appropriate resources.

A role focused on prevention and collaboration

All members of the bike patrol are volunteers. Their role is based on prevention, support, and awareness.

When they observe behaviour that is unsafe, dangerous, or inappropriate, they will first:

  • calmly explain the rules;
  • encourage safe and respectful behaviour;
  • politely explain the possible consequences.

If a situation poses a safety risk, patrollers may contact the appropriate authorities (for example, the police service).

At all times, the patrol’s approach is grounded in listening, empathy, and collaboration, to help keep the trails welcoming, safe, and positive for everyone.

Who Can Join the Patrol?

The Town is looking for adult volunteers (18 and over) who are available occasionally during the summer season.

We’re looking for people who:

  • enjoy physical activity and the outdoors;
  • are comfortable interacting respectfully with the public;
  • are responsible and reliable;
  • can work well as part of a team;
  • have a positive, friendly attitude.

Previous patrol experience is not required.
However, knowing the town’s trail network and having some basic first aid knowledge are considered assets.

Training and support

All selected volunteers will take part in a series of four training sessions before the start of the season. These trainings are designed to equip patrollers to ensure their own safety and that of all trail users.

  • Safety and regulations
  • First aid and CPR
  • On-site trail familiarization
  • Brome Lake ambassadors
