Open Fire: Permit Required

The Town of Brome Lake would like to remind residents that a permit is required for any open fire — that is, any fire that is not contained within a compliant outdoor fireplace.

In accordance with municipal regulations, a processing time of 48 business hours is required before a permit can be issued. If you plan to light an open fire but have not yet set a date, you can submit a permit application for each potential day.

We invite you to consult by-law 2021-09 for all the details regarding open fires.

In addition to having a permit, here are a few precautions to take:

  1. Fires must always be supervised by an adult until they are completely extinguished, to ensure everyone's safety.
  2. The use of tires or flammable liquids to start or maintain a fire is strictly prohibited.
  3. A means to quickly extinguish the fire—such as a bucket of water, garden hose, fire extinguisher, or similar equipment—must be kept nearby.

Do not call 911 to request a fire permit. This number is reserved strictly for emergency situations.
